How to care for tail and mane?

What is the best way to care for the tail and mane?

Some horses have thick hair, some rather thin. But one thing unites all horse owners. The care of coat, tail and mane is a daily challenge.

With tail and mane the horse protects itself from unwanted and annoying insects. Especially in the summer when the horse beats its tail a lot to chase away mosquitoes, horseflies and other animals, the tail quickly becomes very tangled.

It should take up to 7 years until a tail hair has grown back. Of course this varies depending on the horse and size.

But it makes it clear how important the tail and every single hair is to us.

So how do you care for the tail properly?

  1. Spray the tail with a good mane spray (like the rose spray Lovely Rose from Equifinity https://www.equifinity.de/products/lovely-rose-mahnenspray ) Because this not only cares for the hair but also helps to make it easy to comb.
  2. Let the spray take effect
  3. Turn the tail slightly in
  4. Brush the tail carefully from bottom to top step by step to tear out as few hairs as possible
  5. Use a brush that is actually suitable for this (rather wide bristle spacing) A comb is usually only suitable for the mane. If there is no suitable brush for the tail, the tail can be read out. Let the tail hang and loosen each hair individually from the knots.
  6. The tail can also be treated with a suitable baby oil or ointments, e.g. from calendula.

How to care for the mane properly?

  1. Spray the mane and the coat with a good mane spray (like the rose spray Lovely Rose from Equifinity https://www.equifinity.de/products/lovely-rose-mahnenspray ) Because this not only cares for the hair, but also helps to make it easy to comb and gives it a beautiful shine.
  2. Let the spray take effect
  3. Brush the fur out and brush or comb the mane
  4. Tip: Do not spray the mane spray into the mows before braiding, otherwise the braids would quickly unravel again ;) But spray the mows directly after the tournament and the opening of the plaits to care for them after the strains of braiding.

For all products we recommend a small test in advance to see if your horse can tolerate it. Because just as every person can react differently to ingredients, so can your horse.
